Morrisville, North Carolina is a community of about 19,000 residents that’s located within both Wake and Durham counties.
Morrisville shares a similar development story as many of the communities in Wake County, which is that the town grew as a result of the rail line in the area and its location near larger communities such as Raleigh and Chapel Hill.
The town was also the site of a Civil War battle, known as the Battle of Morrisville. During this battle, General Judson Kilpatrick of the Union and his men had a brief skirmish with Confederate armies at Morrisville Station.
The town continued to grow as a result of the rail line and its location at the intersection of roads leading to Chapel Hill, Raleigh, and Hillsborough.
The town was originally chartered in 1875, although it was disincorporated in 1933. In 1947, the town had restored its charter.
