No matter if you love college sports, shopping, or dining, you’ll find it in Chapel Hill! Catch Tar Heels Basketball at the Dean Smith Center, or football at Kenan Memorial Stadium. Franklin Street is the downtown center where you’ll find an eclectic mix of shopping and dining, but if you want to wander, you’ll find nationally recognized restaurants like A Southern Season, Mama Dip’s, Crooks Corner, Sunshine Biscuit Kitchen, and Caffé Driade. You’ll also find plenty more shopping and dining at University Place, Eastgate Shopping Center, Meadowmont Village, and Southern Village.
Arts & Culture
Chapel Hill wears its creative heart on its sleeve – well, actually, on its walls. Many large murals can be seen painted on buildings throughout the town. Morehead Planetarium was the first planetarium built on a college campus and remains an important landmark. The Sorrell building on Franklin Street currently houses the Varsity Theatre, but the Varsity isn’t the only theatre to call that building home – the building has housed movie theatres since its construction in 1927. Museums, Art galleries, arboretums, performances at Memorial Hall…and we’ve only scratched the surface of what this town has to offer!

The Chapel Hill-Carrboro school district covers most of the towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro, along with portions of unincorporated Orange County. East Chapel Hill High School, Carrboro High School, and Chapel Hill High School have all received national recognition for excellence, with Newsweek in 2008 ranking East Chapel Hill High as the 88th-best high school in the nation, and the highest-ranked standard public high school in North Carolina.
